Hill Sprints are excellent for fat loss, gaining strength, lean muscle building, and explosive power. Hill sprints not only give a great cardio workout, but also build muscle.
Incorporating hill sprints in your routine once or twice a week, on non-consecutive days, is an excellent way to speed up your fat loss, and improve your condtioning. As always, check with a medical professional, before beginning a fitness program.
Keep in mind, hill sprints really rev up the heart, and taxes the body with short bursts of energy. No worries, that’s a good thing for the most part.
However, if you are a beginner, ease into a hill sprint routine. Stay hydrated, and perform proper joint mobility exercises before and after your training. How do you incorporate sprints into your routine? If you do not include them, what has held you back from add them? Leave your reply below.

Hooray for hill sprints! Love this post, Sincere. When any of my personal training or boot camp clients really want a hard workout–hill sprints are the way to go!
Talk about some serious calorie burning! One of the cool things about hills is that for our clients who can’t run, simply walking FAST up a hill creates an “interval” (with no jarring on the joints).
I put hills into my routine about once per week. My usual routine: Run up, walk down, and repeat :-). Sometimes I’ll even do some body weight squats or lunges at the top of the hill .

Wow when you say you can help, you don’t mess around! Thank you so much! These instructions are just what I needed and I didn’t even know it!
How many times a week would you recommend? This week I started stair climbing, alternating with Ryan Lee’s Quatro fitness routines. I was thinking I would replace one stair climbing day with hill sprints on the weekend. What do you think?
I am posting this video on my blog!
Thanks again!

Sounds like you are rockin’ and rollin, Becky. I’ve loved the benefits and feeling I get from sprints, since running track during my teens.
I think some folks would be amazed at the results they would get from simply walking quickly up the hill, as you mentioned. Thanks for sharing your great experience about this, often underrated, exercise.

Alicia, you are soooo welcome. I felt demo’ing the techniques I learned would make more sense to explain, instead of emailing you. I’m glad the video helped.
Ahhh, I see you’re rockin’ Ryan’s Quatrao Fitness ( http://fourminutefatloss.com ) program. Suhweet! I know you train regularly, so I think maintaining your stair routine earlier in the week, and adding a hill sprint routine at the end of the week, (i.e. Saturdays) should help give you excellent results.
